Tender Loving Care Dog Grooming & Academy opened its doors on August 5, 2005 with the goal of creating a calm and loving environment for animals to be groomed.
Since the day we opened our doors we have made room for rescues to come in for grooming so that our team can donate our services to help these animals find loving, forever homes.
We specialize in Puppy and senior pet grooming. We also see much more of your dog than meets the eye. That makes it possible to find things on your dog that needs attention. For example… Infections in teeth or ears, skin conditions, allergies, lumps or growths.

In our 18 years of experience we have had the opportunity to groom every breed including cats! That's right...we groom cat's! Here at TLC ALL breeds are welcome. We love what we do and our clients and our pet parents are like family to us. We take our job seriously and safety is our priority. We do NOT use heated crate dryers, we hand dry every dog which allows us to see your pet's skin condition up close. We also go by appointment so your family member is not in a crate all day.

Meet Christina Skountzos
Owner
I am Greek and Italian and while originally from North Jersey, I have lived in Wilmington for 28 years. My passion began 40 years ago rescuing dogs, helping them through their healing process and rehoming them to loving families that they finally deserve. I realized through the years that Dog grooming was a major part of the rescue process and that is where my next passion began 18 years ago.

I was a self-taught groomer, well before YouTube or any social media was available as education tools! I learned my craft from actual books and diagrams. I already had years of experience with dog behavior which helped tremendously!

I continue to educate myself as this is a business where you never stop learning. My customers are like family. My goal is to provide a safe, comfortable and healthy environment for your pets. We do not use heated crate dryers. We hand dry every pet. We also go by appointment, so your dog doesn’t have to sit in a crate all day. We are extremely detailed in our grooms to be sure your pets skin condition stays as healthy as possible.

In 2022 I started to work on opening a school for Dog Grooming. There are not many options in the Wilmington or surrounding areas so I contacted CFCC to offer a partnership for a grooming school that would be affordable to students. We became partners in 2022 and have had great success. We are on our third class. Our students here have worked hard, enjoy what they do and are able to support themselves in a career they now love.

I am grateful to be able to follow my passion of rescuing, dog grooming and now teaching in this amazing field! Every pet should be treated with the kindness and respect they deserves!
